Sad Day

Last week Gary and I happened to be talking about Shae's Pediatrician she had while we were in Cedar City. To us he is an AMAZING Doctor! He saw signs of her illness immediately and was always on top of things. He really seemed to care about us as a family and was available whenever we needed him.
(if you are not familiar with her medical history....click HERE)
He could place an IV when no one else could, he gave us his home number, he worked closely with her oncologist at PCMC . He was just AWESOME!

So.......We got talking about how cool it would be to go see him and get
Shae's picture taken with him now that it is 17 yrs later.
We weren't even sure if he was still in Cedar, so I decided to google his name.

The first thing I found was .....

Sanctions History Found
HealthGrades has verified that Dr. G has sanction history in the last 5 years.
Felony conviction relating to controlled substance violations (4/20/08)

State:

Nevada

Issued By:

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

So, I searched further and found........

Cedar City Pediatrician Faces Drug Charges
July 28th, 2006 @ 6:51am

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Cedar City pediatrician K. G. has been accused of illegally pocketing Demerol, ordering thousands of doses of Lortab and writing fake prescriptions for other controlled substances.

G. 45, was charged by the Iron County attorney earlier this month with obtaining a prescription under false pretenses, possession or use of a controlled substance and a records violation, all third-degree felonies.

A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 5 in 5th District Court in Cedar City.

G.'s office said Thursday that he is on medical leave and would not comment on the charges, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

A probable-cause statement alleges that between Dec. 19 and March 2, G. received drugs on prescriptions written for an office worker, the family member of an office worker or for his business, Valley View Pediatrics in Cedar City, and kept the drugs for himself.

Investigators also allege G. pocketed leftover Demerol. When office workers asked about the extra Demerol, G. allegedly made excuses for not turning it over.

About five days after a procedure in which the Demerol was used, G. gave the Demerol bottle to his office manager, who turned it over to investigators. Lab tests discovered that the bottle's content was mostly saline solution.

According to court documents, G. was unable to produce records showing what happened with the purchases of excessive amounts of controlled substances between Jan. 1, 2004, and Aug. 31, 2005, including 10,100 doses of the painkiller hydrocodone (generic of Lortab) and 11,000 doses of other controlled substances.

G. reportedly told investigators he ground up the hydrocodone pills and mixed them with cherry cough syrup to create his own compound.

Court papers state G.was unable to document the mixture he allegedly compounded, and workers in his office said they never observed him concoct the blend.
